| Until the completion of Block 1, Portland did not have a modern data facility. Block 1 was constructed with 150 pound live load floors, a Zone 3 compliant Seismic Rating, 12' minimum clear height, 24 x 7 secured access, redundant points of entry for both telecommunications fiber and power, unlimited ability to provide chilled water for air conditioning, diesel storage for 48 hours of operation before refueling, redundant AC and DC power backup, and easy access to every fiber provider in the City.
Block 1 is the only co-location facility in Portland designed and built to be up and operational 99.999% of the time. This means a total yearly downtime of less than six minutes. Until the completion of the Tyco space in Block 1, a modern facility that met the post 9/11 infrastructure demands of Wall Street has not existed in Portland. Tyco spent approximately $40 million in Block 1 to build a Global Gateway connection facility to the Tyco Global Network. Block 1 is their largest facility on the West Coast, designed to carry most of the fiber traffic from North America to Asia through the Block 1 facility. Co-location space is available in the building for both large and small requirements. The Brewery Blocks are ideally situated in one of--if not the--best areas in Portlands Central Business District with regard to fiber density. The US West and AT&T central offices that provide service to the Central Business District are located two blocks east of The Brewery Blocks. In addition, the Pearl District (the area north of Burnside Street characterized by post-industrial revolution, multi-level, industrial buildings) has attracted virtually all of the new co-location and telecommunication providers coming to the Portland area. Why the Brewery Blocks for co-location and telecommunication providers? Gerding Edlen Development is taking a cutting edge approach to providing bundled communication services throughout the entire Brewery Blocks development. Our plan provides future flexibility through multiple providers and redundant back-up capabilities enabling our users to take advantage of the latest technologies. |
